UNiTE to End Digital Violence: Why This Year’s 16 Days of Activism Matters More Than Ever
How Does Digital Violence Harm Women, And Who Can We Turn to for Help?
Every year, the world comes together from November 25 to December 10 for the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence.
And this year’s global theme is bold, urgent, and deeply necessary:
“UNiTE to End Digital Violence Against All Women and Girls.”
Why?
Because harm no longer happens only in physical spaces.
It now happens on our phones, in our inboxes, in our comment sections, in places meant to connect us but now used to silence, shame, and violate women.
Cyberbullying.
Image-based abuse.
Online harassment.
Threats.
Doxxing.
Non-consensual sharing of private content.
These are not “internet issues.”
They are real violence, with real emotional consequences.
Digital Violence Is Still Violence, And It Leaves Invisible Wounds
For many women, online abuse doesn’t end when the screen turns off.
It follows them into their thoughts, their self-esteem, their relationships, their work, and their emotional balance.
That is why this year’s theme matters:
It forces us to face a form of violence society often minimizes — even though its psychological impact is deep and lasting.
But here’s what matters even more:
No woman should ever walk through this alone.
